Around noon time the bell rings and typically two children of each class are sent to the kitchen to carry the big bowls of food to each class room. The food will be distributed to single plates as soon as the headcount of children per class is reached. But before they start, it is time to wash their hands, as you can see on the picture to the far right. A typical meal is ugali or posho (a dough-like meal made from maize or corn flour) with sukuma wiki = collard greens. The school aims to provide a nutritionally balanced meal by combining a filling starchy dish with different types of vegetables.
